Pick em Don't Spray em
Spring is here!
This is one of my favorite times of the year; you have the birds chirping,
the plants sprouting and the flowers blooming.
Its also the time of the year to seed that next phase in your personal environment,
and you might be gearing up to get busy and get dirty
Attending to one’s landscape is one task many people take on in the spring.
Whether it’s starting those seed, tending garden beds,
cutting and weeding that new green growth, or spring cleaning;
spring is a busy time of year.
BUT WAIT!
Before you put those gloves on I have a great tip for you this spring,
“Pick’em Don’t Spray’em”
Many of the “Weeds” we tend to battle every cycle have hidden secrets,
forgotten over time.
Some of these “Weeds” use to be our greatest allies,
nourishing and healing us,
till the war broke out...
Its was the 1960’s, scientist were in their labs trying to build weapons;
weapons to start a conquest across America.
Their operation was to exterminate a newly formed enemy, “Weeds”
Then in 1970 a breakthrough took place,
scientists discovered a new chemical named “ Glyphosate”
and from that day forward life has been a battle zone with no end in sight.
This brings us to the spring of 2015 and it is time to pick a side.
Lets bring peace to the world and pick “Weeds”,
and the first ally we should seek is the Dandelion.
The Dandelion was first brought to the Americas when the Pilgrims arrived around the 1600’s.
The Pilrgims had a long relationship with the dandelion in Europe,
and felt this plant would be a great resource to bring on their trip to the New World.
They Relied on the plants medicinal values as well as the nutritional value,
to survive the harsh elements of conquering a new land.
They named it dandelion, meaning Lions Tooth,
from there serrated, tooth looking, leaves.
This name can be traced back to the Greek,
when they called it, Leontodin.
Later scientist classified it into the plant kingdom and gave it the latin name,
Taraxacum Officinale, meaning “official remedy of disorder”.
This brings me to my reasoning to make dandelion our first priority in the fight for peace.
We must face the disorder to instill the peace.
Dandelion Leaves have a high mineral density,
being high in Vitamin A, Vitamin B’s, Vitamin C, Vitamin K,
as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium.
This high nutritional value might be the reason some call it “Nature’s Multi-Vitamin”.
Add dandelion leaves to your salad or lessen ”the bitter taste of medicine”
by adding it to stir frys or by blanching.
I like stir-frying them in a little vinegar and garlic and serve them with a tuber.
Dandelion gather their minerals deep down in the hummus,
using their large taproot system.
The root of the dandelion is where most of the secrets of its medicinal value hides.
When you pick a dandelion you might notice a white sap that oozes from the wound.
This sap has most of the medicinal values and its highest concentration
is found in the root.
Dandelion has been used for centuries for its liver detoxification and anti-inflammatory.
It may help produce histaminase in the liver, good for combating allergies.
It is an astringent (apigenin,lutelin), which may help with circulation, inflammation,
and diarrhea.
It can help stimulate bile and aid in digestion and
also balance blood sugar with its levels of inulin.
Some also use it to mitigate PMS or Menopause
from its relationship with hormone regulation.
Good ways of deploying these traits against disorder is making root tea,
tinctures with alcohol, or soaking in vinegar.
All in all, dandelion is great ally to have when one takes the fight against disorders.
I hope this article has helped shine a light on some of the hidden secrets
that lie in just one “Weed”.
Remember with Dandelion and all other weeds,
only pick plants far away from the battlefield,
which have no danger of been sprayed.
Just think,
As we collectively make decisions to bring peace to our Mind, Body, Physique;
we collectively bring peace to one another and liberate the world of the shadow of war.
